Crotcrank

Am so cranky/crotchety I could invent a whole new word for it. Like crotcrank. Actually I rather like that and I have to snap out of this soon because I'm normally the one who snaps other people out of it. Hubby is currently looking at me in a bewildered fashion and offering me the TV remote out of fear.

Anyway I've done the usual cheer-me-up things - wasted ages choosing a new David Tennant icon and then gone for one of the first ones I saw - and sighed over my [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon story, which has given me no trouble whatsoever, apart from the fact that it's weird, I'm not in a romantic mood (which is a snag as it's my genre) and I've written 2000 words without a prompt in sight. It also shows every sign of wanting to be an epic, and I really didn't want it to be. So that's crotcranked me off as well.

Right, whinge over. If anyone hasn't seen the R/T picture [livejournal.com profile] drumher did, to illustrate one of [livejournal.com profile] mrstater's fics, then it's great and I just love the colours, expressions, hair and both sets of feet. The only thing I can draw is horses and they have yet to feature in any R/T story I've done. Now there's an idea... ;)

I keep reading that crotchcrank, which just can't be good.

Didn't we explain at [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon that one of the romantic sub-genres is weird? Smut, fluff, weird...

If it makes you feel any better, mine's not looking to be short, either, much as I wanted it to be, and I'm really not sure if it's a drama at all, as it has very little plot, and is more of a melodramedy if anything. Which can't be any more good than crotchcranks.

So now do I stare at your icon, [livejournal.com profile] godricgal's, or the feet frame in mine?

Date: 2006-10-16 09:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com
I seem to be putting a lot of sub-genres into this, including ones I've made up especially for the occasion. I think I'm just worried everyone will go 'Oh, more romance' so I'm writing anti-romance at present.

I think Crotchcrank is when your jeans cut you in two. ;)

Hubby has let me play one if his exclusive computer games. I've blasted lots of things, amassed lots of points, and think I've found another good way to waste time!

Your icon is fab, but [livejournal.com profile] godricgal has a wonderful selection. Mind you, she keeps going out and buying DVDs recommended to me, and then telling me how good they are... ;)

I just. don't. even. want. to know.

Does yours play games, too? Mine plays over the network with all his co-workers at lunch, blasting each other and amassing lots of points. He tries to get me to play, but I'm hopelessly uncoordinated at it.

[livejournal.com profile] godricgal needs to let you her Top Hat!Thewlis icon for your last jumble fic.

And why do you think everyone's sick of you writing romance?

I did a personal meme and decided. Just call me paranoid. Anyway I've turned it into an adventure fic so it won't matter. ;)

I should have told you your writing tells me you're a very silly lady. ;)

It's too late; I've framed the original one and there will soon be a flashing icon of it, LOL.

Yes, we're playing something very technical where we get bombs and blow up these little squares by incredibly accurate shooting. Or so I'm told. Still it makes him happy and it seems quite therapeutic. I'm also going to try going to sleep and waking up on a different day shortly.

It's nice to find out what he does all day at work... ;)

I think we now know how Crookshanks got his name. And erm, his bandy-legged walk.

There's a huge ginger Persian cat who lives not far from us. His idea of a hectic life seems to be lying sprawled out like a rug in his drive, and dosing until passers-by stop and coo at him. Whereupon he ambles over and sits there regally to be petted.

I call him Crookshanks. There's a certain glint in his eye as he looks at you that suggests he thinks he's smarter than you are. He gives dogs a death stare and they back off. And his back legs are a bit bandy. I'm sure Hermione's left him here while she's off hunting horcruxes... ;)

All cats look at you like that, though, don't they? I think they look upon us as we look upon dogs: 'You're clearly an inferior species; however, I am tolerating your presence as, occasionally, you amuse me.'

In my head, all cats sound like Alan Rickman.

I'll have to let you see some photos of the black cat that also seems to think our house is his illicit affair on the side, where he's free to spend the day in the garden and use the toilet facilities. We've christened him Leo - he has huge, lamp-like green eyes that are completely vacant, the sweetest nature imaginable, and he's the thickest thing I've ever met. Completely utterly gormless. He runs away from tiny birds, is scared by shadows and if his tail catches on something, and my washing on the line is the stuff of nightmares. (Perhaps he's looking at my undies;))

I look at him with a glint in my eye, and then think: 'Oh but you're so cute in your thickness!'

He sounds adorable. And I'm all for the cute cat pics ;).

My two are shaping up to be one of each kind of cat, I think. Jack's a lover, not a fighter - all he really wants is to snuggle up to me, have his tummy tickled, and sleep, but Meg won't let him rest - she's always coming over and prodding him to wake him up and make him play with her. And she likes to climb. She'll be the one stuck up a tree, I just know it.

I love cats doing rug impressions. The add so much to the decor. Except the ones that act like troll foot umbrella stands and seem to be underfoot more often than not. ;)

Less than a week til birthday... ;)

I've been trying to find the perfect one to accompany my next jumble fic. I'm edging towards either that last one or this - they seem to symbolise the plot. ;)

Obviously when I get my Birthday icon, I shall be writing a Remus/McGonagall pole dancing fic ...

Date: 2006-10-19 08:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] molly-coddles.livejournal.com
So you're writing about Remus playing with a Spirograph? Hm, I guess he is the type to go round and round the issues.

Speaking of going round and round, I'm looking forward to that pole dancing fic.
Just imagine the uses McGonagall really has for that scratching post...

Tis an excellent icon - he's looks so intense *shivers*. I offer you one of the fruits of my labour today, hoping that it will help cheer you up just a tad.

I'm sorry that your Meta fic is making you crotcranked. Mrs T is right though, romance is an umbrella for many things. Mine too is looking like it's going to be a long one, and I'm trying some pretty weird things, which is concerning me slightly.

[livejournal.com profile] drumher's drawing is wonderful, I keep going back to peek at it.

Anyway, hope you feel more the thing tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Where are you getting all these wonderful icons from? Is there some exclusive DT Shop I'm missing out on? Is it in Blackpool... ;)

I think I'm just panicking because I think everyone's had enough of me doing romance, and this story is turning out very tangent-like, even by my standards. Plus I wanted to do 3000 words max., and that's looking unlikely at this early stage. But I rather like it, even in all its weirdness, and that's the important thing.

I'll be okay tomorrow when I can eat again. Things have improved since I watched Spooks and blasted things on one of Hubby's computer games. It seems seriously addictive!

I just do a very basic Google search and there they are....I actually found more today than I have the space to upload to LJ.

I don't think anyone could have had enough of you writing romance, go for it! I'm glad you like it, it is the main thing.

Blasting things is cathartic when you're generally feeling pissed off. Fingers crossed that everything settles down tomorrow, four days of sickness is really outside of enough.

Well if you're stuck for that perfect Birthday present for me - unless I'm getting a used copy of Blackpool, LOL - I wouldn't say no to any of your current selection. That one's scrummy too.

I'm sure I'll be fine tomorrow and heartily ashamed of whinging. But blasting things has been fun. And I'll hold you to enjoying my romance, as soon as I remember where it is. ;)

Ooh, I shouldn't really - I'm only grumpy because I managed to inadvertently poison myself on Friday by eating the wrong thing, and after three days of bathroom hugging I'm finding it somewhat hard to get in a romantic frame of mind.

But go on then! Just a glimpse... ;)

And you know, I was just saying this morning that there are some very crazy icons floating around our F-lists.

From: [identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com
I don't think I can type, I'm laughing so much. Especially at pole dancing McGonagall and Remus playing the bagpipes. I'm inclined to say it's purrfect as it is.

Unless...should Wolfie Remus, complete with sexy glasses, be saying something? Or have a little heart above his head? Bear in mind I'm not as insane as I normally am today. ;)

Date: 2006-10-16 10:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] godricgal.livejournal.com
That is just too funny. It's the shot of the wolf's profile that really cracks me up. Like he's blowing a kiss.

Can you make Remus playing bag pipes bounce up and down a bit?

From: [identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com
Erm, you have remembered about men not wearing much under their kilts, haven't you? I don't want Remus to knock himself out or anything... ;)

Date: 2006-10-16 10:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrstater.livejournal.com
I think Remus doesn't wear anything under his robes, either; he's related to that man at the triwizard tournament who likes a little air...

Sounds more like mystery/suspense to me.

At least he'd be in no danger of crotchcrankiness.

LOL, now that would make a whole different icon...

Yes, when I saw that Puss in Boots clip art, it just begged for a kilt and a dance pole.

Well, actually, I already had the kilt and pole, I was looking for kitties to use them. My evil chuckle of delight when I found that image probably rivalled Voldemort's.

Date: 2006-10-17 01:00 am (UTC)

it's even worse that I read it as CrotchRank, which just sounds.... nasty. and unhygienic.

From: [identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com
I think I may have to work the word into my fic, it adds a certain 'romantic' element to it ... ;)

I hope you feel better soon, and Crotcrank is a wonderful word.

Dear lord, that icon is drool worthy.

From: [identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com
I'm all right this morning, thank you. And looking at all those icons has rekindled my romantic streak, though perhaps not in the normal sense of the word. I should never have looked at Remus playing bagpipes in a kilt, LOL.

Hope you're feeling less crotcrank today. Have you ever tried Berroca to get you over the post-toilet hugging urgh-ness?

At least you've written something for the jumble. I'm currently languishing around the 250 word mark, owing to my boss popping in yesterday for a lengthy (and mostly unnecessary) meeting, and then my neighbour just popping in to say hello. Which was very sociable and nice of her, but not great for fic writing.

Date: 2006-10-17 11:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com
I'm okay, thank you; stopped the pathetic whining anyway and breakfast seems to have agreed with me. Berroca and I have a close and intimate relationship from time to time, though I've never used it as the great hangover pick-me-up, which a couple of friends swear it is. But it does help, as does getting past the three days of joy!

Don't worry about the jumble - have read through the crap (no pun intended) I wrote yesterday and been slicing and dicing this morning. There's also something seriously wrong with my plot as I have a beginning, an idea of the end, and no idea how to reach it. On the plus side, after all those icons, I'm feeling a touch more romantic. ;)

Date: 2006-10-17 12:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jdbracknell.livejournal.com
Although I do keep Berroca on stand-by for medicinal purposes, it is a great hangover cure. Second only to Salt and Vinegar crisps, in my book ;).

I quite often start with an ending and a beginning and have no idea how to get between the two. Sometimes I think I really should think these thing all the way through first, rather than just assuming inspiration will strike when I'm half-way, because it never, ever does....
